On Monday the Blake Girls’ Soccer squad beat Totino-Grace 2-0 to advance to their
second consecutive State Finals.
The Blake fans were able to relax a bit as both goals were scored before halftime.
Midfielder Lydia Sutton ’14 scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Maddy
Moe ’15. Just before halftime, forward Natalie Sill ’13 deflected a corner kick from
Sutton past the Totino-Grace goaltender for the second goal of the game.
Not only did the Bears win 2-0, but they were clearly in control of the entire game
as they went 14-2 in shots on goal and 7-1 on corner kicks. Goalkeeper Maddy
Crawford ’13 had earned a shutout with one save.
Blake will face off Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the State Championship this Thursday—
the same team they defeated 1-0 in the 2011 State Championship. Earlier this
season, Blake and Benilde faced off in a scoreless battle, ending with a 0-0 tie.
The epic rematch will be taking place this Thursday, October 1 st, at 10:00 am at the
Metrodome. We wish the team the best of luck!
