Track Minnesota participants take home summer victories in Houston
Olivia Ohrt ‘18, Shiv Jhanjee ‘18, Cameron Downey ‘17, and Robbie Grace ‘19 all spent the summer training with one of Minnesota’s top track teams, Track Minnesota. Coming off the spring high-school track season at the end of June (at Class A state, Grace competed in the 100m, 400m, and 4x400m relay, Downey in shot put and discus, and Ohrt in the 4×400 relay) the top runners from various high schools around the Twin Cities come together in the offseason to train and improve their various events together. Jhanjee describes the atmosphere as “serious, yet fun.”
All the athletes loves to run, but 90% of them will continue on to participate on college level track teams, making it something to not be taken lightly. The team trained Monday through Thursday 6:30 to 8:30 every night of the summer to prepare for their big trip to Houston, Texas to compete at USA Track Nationals in August. All athletes saw successful competition. Ohrt left Houston a national champion in the 4X800m relay.
