In Block 3 painting with Bill Colburn, students were tasked with creating a painting inspired by the human condition. Prior to this, they had done two smaller assignments painting hands and zoomed in parts of faces. Students posed one of their classmates to paint. It was the classes’ first time painting on a canvas, and they created their own by stretching and preparing them for painting. The entire assignment lasted about three weeks. Sarah Hasday-Erbsen ‘24 says “I decided I wanted to make it about how we see the cartoonish realities that we want to see, and how we choose what we want to see… not always reality.” These pieces are now on display in the library.

About the Contributors
Sofia Perlman, Editor Emerita
My name is Sofia and I am a senior this year! I have been a writer and editor for Spectrum since my freshman year, and I previously served on the Spectrum Staff Team as Copy Editor and Student Spotlight page editor. Previously I have edited the In-Depth, Sci-Tech, Perspectives, and News pages. My favorite thing about Spectrum is the collaboration across all different grade levels. I love having the opportunity to work with people I would otherwise not know. Outside of school, I am a year-round student at Minnesota Dance Theatre and a member of MDT's Second Company. I love to travel, read, and spend time with friends and family.
Zoey Ueland, Editor Emerita
Hi, my name is Zoey and I am a senior this year. Last semester, I served as the Variety Editor and I am also a Co-Editor-in-Chief. Last year I was the Student Life editor but I dabbled with other pages. Throughout my four years involved with Spectrum, having written since freshman year, I have enjoyed hearing from a wide array of voices, learning about different perspectives around Blake, and working collaboratively alongside my peers. Outside of the newsroom you can find me reading, hanging out with my friends, exploring Minneapolis and swimming!
