Every athlete at Blake suffers the same challenge before practice: hunger. Many students look forward to an after-school snack, whether it is due to a not fulfilling or early lunch, or they are just growing very fast. This leaves the time before sports practice an optimal time to eat and energize. However, many sports at the middle school start so soon after class ends that there is no time to stop at home. Cayden Liao ‘24 likes eating a Cliff bar before sports practice because “it’s healthy, it’s got a bunch of calories, and it keeps me awake”. JT Sugalski ‘24 likes eating pita chips with hummus and olive tapenade before sports practice because “it tastes good, and it’s fatty. It also has protein in it”. What I would suggest is bringing some amazing snacks that you can eat in the car on the way there.
First, a classic. Goldfish have been one of my favorite snacks ever since I was a kid. Whether it was snack time in lower school, or an after-school snack in middle school, goldfish provided surprisingly amazing satisfaction to my hunger, as I always feel full for at least an hour or two after devouring them. Also, the tiny size of goldfish provides an easy eat on the go, as it is very simple to pop them in your mouth while driving or while being a passenger princess. As for the taste and texture, the crunchy-to-cheesy ratio is unmatched, making you crave even more after you eat some.
Second, a must-eat. Granola bars also are one of my favorite snacks, as they are easy to carry around and suffice your hunger when eating. My personal favorite all my life have been the Chewy chocolate chip granola bars. The granola in these bars are unlike any other, and the chocolate chips add a nice sweetness that add to the overall flavor.
Third, a Blake must. Chick-Fil-A may not be the best food to eat before practice because it may give you a stomach ache, but if it doesn’t give you a stomach ache, then it is a perfect snack. Also keep in mind, that this option costs a little more money. Due to its proximity to the middle school, where a majority of sports practices occur, it proves a valid option as a snack. A meal like chicken nuggets and fries is perfect, as the eatablity is very easy as each bite is handheld. Also, the chicken is enough protein to keep you energized at practice. In terms of taste, Chick-Fil-A, in my opinion, has the best french fries out of fast food restaurants due to their rich taste. The nuggets also are very yummy when you add a sauce, like spicy buffalo or Chick-Fil-A sauce.
Next time you are on the go and need a snack, one of these options can give you more energy at practice so even if you have to run sprints, you are ready and energized.
