What does an ACL even do? These are the words that could not escape my mind as I stare at the big red IR next to Christian McCaffery’s name on my fantasy team. My number 1 overall pick had gone to waste, and now I had no one to help me escape a punishment. Fantasy football, a commonly played game among sports fans, dominates many lives in the fall months. Many leagues have a cash prize, but also an embarrassing task for the loser to do, the punishment.
Some leagues have a more intense punishment than others, ranging from drinking a spoonful of hot sauce to the waffle house challenge in which the loser must go to waffle house for 24 hours, but each waffle they eat takes off an hour. Do not feel peer pressured to join a league with a punishment, however, as the punishment is only fun as long as everyone is having fun.
Luke Lentini ‘24 said that his fantasy football punishment is that the loser has to dress up in a deer costume and get open fired on in a paintball field with no gun. Lentini thinks that punishments are “fun and build a good amount of comradery for the team”, however, this year he doesn’t like the punishment because “I’m in last place”
Josiah March ‘24 says in his swimming fantasy football league, the loser has to do a “2,000 IM for time in a girls suit. ”For those who don’t know, 2,000 IM is a “25 minute swim where you do 500 fly, 500 back, 500 breaststroke, and 500 freestyle.” According March punishments motivate people to do better, except Cayden Liao ‘24 who rebuted saying “I’m last in the league and I’m gonna have to do it, and I need Josiah to trade me good players”
