There’s no better feeling than going to the airport. I love to travel, and there’s no better time than the two weeks off from school at the end of March. It’s usually still cold in Minnesota in March (with this year being an exception). It’s nice to go somewhere warm to escape the cold and dreary weather. Spring Break also offers a time to see things that you wouldn’t ordinarily get to see. Summer schedules can be very busy with camps, internships, and sports. Spring Break is a time with no school responsibilities, making it a great time to travel, whether you are hoping to relax or see everything where you are going.
Although I personally prefer leaving, there can be benefits to staying home. Although she usually travels, Olivia Besikof ‘27 says “I think I would prefer staying home because then I can hang out with my friends and I don’t have to miss sports.” Spring Break happens at a busy time of the year, and extracurricular activities don’t just stop if you are traveling, so you’re probably going to miss out on something. Schedules during the school week and even weekends can be very hectic with extracurriculars and homework, so Spring Break can be a good time to catch up with friends.
Even though I love to travel, my family often can’t during Break because of differences in our school schedules. Since we can’t travel, my grandma usually comes to stay with us for a week during Break. My family is also big Twins fans, and the last few years, their opening weekend has been in Kansas City during the one weekend that we share of Spring Break. We drive down, see a game, and do other things in the city for a few days. Although someone has had to miss a day of school both times, it’s been a really fun experience.
