As the school year steadily creeps up on students, it’s easy to feel the carefree days of summer slowly slipping away. However, with a slight amount of intentional effort, it’s possible to carry those sunny vibes into the academic year.
Julia Konietzko ‘27 said that in order to maintain the summer atmosphere as the transition into school arrives, people should be “taking time to reset on the weekends and having time for yourself so you can be ready for school and to hangout with friends.” Being well rested not only improves one’s mood, but also reduces stress, boosts energy, enhances performance, and strengthens relationships. In addition to self-care, remaining connected with friends is key to savoring the summer spirit.
Tia Gnanapragasam ‘25 tries to preserve the summer spirit through technology: watching comforting tv shows and movies throughout the school year. Identifying a comforting movie, tv show, or activity to indulge in is one aspect that can make the transition into the academic routine smoother and more enjoyable.
Zellie Olson ‘25 said that “Mango lip gloss,” will help her in keeping up the summer vibe throughout the school year. Keeping small mementos from the summertime can oftentimes offer support when easing into the academic year.
Margaux Henderson ‘25 also highlighted the power of reminiscing to sustain that summer feeling. “To keep the vibes going, I like to look at photos and videos from summer,” said Henderson. Reflecting on those cherished memories can provide motivation to push through the school year, knowing that another rewarding summer awaits.
By incorporating these strategies, it’s possible to carry the warmth, relaxation, and joy of summer well into the school year, ensuring that the spirit of summer never fully fades.
