The start of 2025’s spring sports seasons has been rainy, windy, and cold. Through the first half of April, it had been over 3.5 °F colder than average. Golf, as an outdoor sport, has been extremely affected. But despite the caused growing pains, the girls’ team is optimistic.
As captain Loraine Pidot ’26 explained, “With all the weather, we’ve had to kind of shift and pivot to indoor simulators, which is a little tricky, especially getting to know people.” Pidot added that “A lot of girls who haven’t hit yet are now hitting inside, which is a little bit unrealistic, but it’s some good practice and helps get some distances.”
Captain Reagan Schoen ’26 agreed that the weather has already impacted the season, stating a practice round played on April 15 “was so windy. It was really hard to hit the ball and make it go straight. But I think it’s something that we all get used to as the season goes on and adjust based on that. Obviously it’s not ideal, but as long as there’s no snow on the ground, we’ll figure it out.”
Pidot said that “Simulators are hard, especially when we have a lot of new girls on the team. We have 14 seventh graders this year, and a lot of them have not played golf before, and so simulators are a hard place for somebody to learn how to play golf.”
Pidot noted that they’re “Definitely a young team. We captains have been captains since last year, and we’re the oldest on the team.” She’s especially hopeful for her individual season: “I’m coming back through a pretty severe injury, and this is a comeback season, and I think we have a lot of girls who are gonna play well this year.”
Despite the challenges, Schoen is hopeful, explaining, “I think this will be a good season. I’m excited to see where we can go and what we can do…We’re working on building strong bonds as teammates, especially with such a small group. That really matters in golf.”
